{"id":2172,"date":"2022-12-05T04:34:14","date_gmt":"2022-12-05T04:34:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gypsyskitravels.com\/?page_id=2172"},"modified":"2023-12-06T07:29:42","modified_gmt":"2023-12-05T21:29:42","slug":"sea-shepherd","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/gypsyskitravels.com\/index.php\/sea-shepherd\/","title":{"rendered":"Fun in the sun with Sea Shepherd"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u201cOcean Defense Tour 2022\u201d.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<p>I wear the iconic Sea Shepherd logo on all my outer ski wear, to support and encourage participation in this global conservation group\u2019s clandestine ocean campaigns and stealth executions.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cfighting to defend, conserve and protect our seas\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Recently my tenacity to get more involved exploded (my backyard is the Great Barrier Reef) and \u2018jumped ship\u2019 to the Spirit of Queensland that stops at Proserpine. Then embraced the 15 hour (1050 k) rail torture down to Brisbane.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gypsyskitravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_20221120_104723467-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>fast ferry to the event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Catching a ferry across the Brisbane river to the Sea Shepherd \u201cEvent\u201d made a civilised and cooling brunch-time arrival, with tasty food trucks, homemade cakes n\u2019 goodies, juice bars and gelato cones tempting guests in the heatwave Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gypsyskitravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/gelato-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>cooling with gelato.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>The live music was conducive and relaxing for supporters on the river-bank lawns and the \u2018not for profit\u2019 Sea Shepherd tents offered popular Tees and Fashion statements, promoting their global ocean campaigns and the iconic logo.<br>And of course, there were many smooches (doggies) on parade, wearing their skull, trident and crook, and Jolly Roger accessories?<\/p>\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gypsyskitravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_20221120_134605318-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>stylish sounds on stage.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>The revolving public and committed all-day supporters listened intensely to three global Sea Shepherd captains outline future commitments in our southern region and explained other actions, including minimizing our planet\u2019s congealing shores of rubbish.<br><\/p>\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gypsyskitravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_20221120_134446951-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Captain Alex with supporter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Traditionally the Sea Shepherd \u201cattack ships\u201d are based in San Juan Island in Washington State USA. and use Australian ports for friendly refueling, provisioning, and repairs incurred during the turbulent Southern Ocean Campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gypsyskitravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_20221120_120933961-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>under the trees and beside the river.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>Finally, when Captain Peter Hammarstedt (Global Ceo. and Board member) of Sea Shepherd concluded his very engaging address; he advised the funding of a new ship by a very generous Aussie family is near completion and will arrive here in 2023. To \u201cprotect All Sea Life in the Southern Region\u201d and will be based and operate from our ports. Exciting stuff!<\/p>\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/gypsyskitravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_20221120_155226460-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Captain Peter (hat) and mate.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>One Local issue stood out\u2026Drum Lines and the Netting of Sharks (and every other sea animal) while supposedly protecting beaches, swimmers, surfers\u2026etcetera. It\u2019s cruel, ugly and doesn\u2019t work! But fortunately, there is a realistic and humane solution.<br>Drone Patrols are not new, but after listening to the presentation from Captain Jeff Hanson and then talking to the Operation APEX Harmony crew I am convinced Hi-tech Drones will prevail, by identifying the different species of sharks and then giving accurate audio signals to them below. Eventually eliminating all Drum Lines and Nets on our coastline.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/gypsyskitravels.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_20221120_113248260-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>cupcakes to go?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>It was a great day.
